Topic: Why do I think there’s hope for paper straws?

As plastic straws have completely retired from the corner of life, paper straws and PLA biodegradable straws have appeared in order to solve various environmental problems brought by traditional plastic. Although in terms of consumer intuitive experience, paper straws are levels lower than traditional PLA straws, I still think paper straws are very promising. Experience aside, the environmental benefits of paper straws can’t be ignored.

In terms of environmental protection, the obvious defect of traditional PP plastic straws lies in the fact that plastic waste is difficult to degrade and will exist in the environment for a long time. According to reports, plastic particles have been found in the deepest part of the Mariana Trench, and micro-plastic technology has even been found in human breast milk and blood. It’s scary stuff, and it’s why we need to get rid of plastic straws once and for all.

In contrast, the main raw materials of paper straws are wood pulp, grass pulp and other long fibers, which exist naturally in nature for a long time and can be quickly decomposed. Moreover, if these materials are accidentally abandoned in nature, they will not exist for a long time, but will enter the natural cycle and become raw materials again, which is relatively environmentally friendly.

But some friends say that the manufacture of paper straws needs paper, and paper making is a famous “polluter”. But that pales in comparison to the oil extraction required to make plastic straws, which creates more carbon emissions and other pollution.

In terms of the production process, although paper straws are also used to make paper and cut down trees, they are all economic trees specially used for the manufacture of wood pulp. In the recycling process, if paper straws can be well recycled, they can also process recycled paper, while plastic straws are not easy to say.

Therefore, as far as environmental protection is concerned, paper straws are more environmentally friendly than plastic straws. The new single-layer environmentally friendly paper straws launched by HE team use about 60% less material than traditional paper straws. At the same time, the new generation of paper straw material can be naturally degraded, no harm to the soil, has passed the Ministry of Science and Technology achievements assessment, is a real green and safe product!
